The Swiss Alley, commonly known by its nieghbours as the Post Office Alley, is located on Vicente Lopez 1661, in the neighbourhood of Recoleta. The alley still has its original structure and flare which was built in the 1920's by Felipe Restano, an Italian immigrant. The building has 21 single room apartments, which are mainly devoted nowadays to restaurants and commercial shops. It is 25 metres wide by around 70 metres in depth. Whilst I was able to discover why it is commonly known as the Post Office Alley (no real mystery here - there used to be a post office in the past in the Alley!), I have not been able to find out the reason behind the original name though - The Swiss Alley.
